Privacy Policy

The short version: Pocket Webcam doesn’t collect your data. Your video goes from your phone to your own computer, over your own network, and nowhere else.

Who we are

Pocket Webcam (the iPhone and Android apps, the desktop app, and this website) is made by Nicolai Jørgensen, Norway, who is responsible for the processing described here. Contact: privacy@pocketwebcam.com.

The phone app (iPhone and Android)

Camera

The app uses your camera only while it’s open, to show a preview and to stream video to the Pocket Webcam desktop app you connect it to. The video is encoded on your phone and sent directly to that computer over your local network. It is never sent to us or to any server, and it is not recorded or stored by the app.

Local network

To let your computer find your phone, the app announces itself on your local network (using Bonjour on iPhone and Android’s network service discovery on Android). Other devices on the same network can see this announcement, which contains the name you give your phone in the app’s settings and its model type (for example “iPhone16,1” or “Pixel 8”). You can change the name at any time in the app’s settings.

Stored on your phone

The app saves your settings (camera, resolution, frame rate, quality, and the device name) on your phone so they’re remembered next time. This never leaves your device.

What the app doesn’t do

  • No accounts or sign-in
  • No analytics, tracking, or advertising
  • No third-party SDKs that collect data
  • No recording or uploading of your video

If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your phone’s settings, Apple (iPhone) or Google (Android) may give us anonymous, aggregated statistics and crash reports. They control this; you can turn it off in your phone’s privacy settings (on iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements).

If the app offers optional tips, payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.

The desktop app

The desktop app runs on your own computer. It receives video from your phone over your local network and passes it to the virtual webcam on your computer. It doesn’t send any data to us or to anyone else.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics, and no third-party scripts or fonts. It’s hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

The launch list

If you join the launch list, we collect your email address and the two answers you choose (your computer, Linux or Windows, and your phone, iPhone or Android). We use them only to email you when Pocket Webcam launches, and to decide which version to build first. The list is stored with Brevo, our email service provider. You confirm your address through a link in a confirmation email (double opt-in), and every email we send has an unsubscribe link. We delete your data from the list on request. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

If you email us

When you email us (for example at hello@, support@ or privacy@pocketwebcam.com), we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you, or, if you asked us to, to tell you when Pocket Webcam launches. Our email is handled by Cloudflare (receiving), Google (our inbox) and Brevo (sending). We delete your messages if you ask us to.

The legal basis for this is your request to us (and, for launch notifications, your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by replying “unsubscribe”).

Your rights

You can ask us what personal data we have about you (in practice, only emails you’ve sent us), ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to privacy@pocketwebcam.com. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Norway that’s Datatilsynet, or the authority in the country where you live.

Children

Pocket Webcam doesn’t collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what data we collect, we’ll say so clearly in the app before it takes effect.
